Plato's "Allegory of the Cave"

What I think Socrates means by quoting Homer "Better to be a poor servant of a poor master, and endure anything  rather than think as they do and live in their manner" is that its better to appreciate the smaller things in life like necessities  instead of an object. I agree with Socrates intended philosophy because you don't need a lot of fancy things to survive in life.
